Cats Are Funny

Cats have been likened to monkeys in the similarities which make them funny. They are by their very nature, exceedingly curious, playful, imaginative, talkative, loving, intelligent and crafty animals, amongst other traits, both general and breed specific. This by and large is the perfect recipe for extremely hilarious behavior.

Curious: Have you ever brought home a cardboard box or a paper bag and observed your cat with it?

Playful: Watching our cats playing together always has us in stitches. They are both so predictable and unpredictable at the same time. Just the simple act of them sneaking up on each other, pouncing and seeing their reactions is humor enough without them even being original. Ever come across a demolished toilet roll, ripped up magazine or attempted to decorate a Christmas tree without incident?

Imaginative: Cats don't even need props in order to play. You'll often catch them leaping about and pouncing on absolutely nothing at all. They say that the full moon often has this effect. Watch the body language and the facial expressions!

Talkative: Certain breeds 'talk' more than others, most notably the Asian varieties such as the Siamese, Burmese and other Oriental short hairs but short haired cats in general, tend to talk more than their long haired (Persian) cousins. Cats have quite a range of sounds they make. From purring and chirping when they're happy, doing 'the machine gun' when they spy a bird, finding ways of asking for food or screaming and howling when coming across their arch enemy from over the road. Either way, talking cats are pretty amusing.

Loving: Our Burmese cat goes to great lengths to ensure that she gets picked up and carried around as much as possible when she's in her loving mood. She could take you unawares and leap onto your shoulder as you walk past her on a shelf or she could chase you around the house, howling, until you pick her up. Either way, depending on your mood, it can be very funny.

Intelligent: Who says that cats can't be trained? Our 2 cats know at least 6 words and I have trained them both to 'say please' in order to get a treat. Saying please involves them standing on their hind legs and tapping the treat bag with one of their paws when prompted. This always gets a few laughs from visitors. Some breeds have even been known to use the toilet!

Crafty: Ever seen those cats who have worked out how to flush a toilet or open a door?

Other traits - There are so many other types of humorous behavior that one couldn't possibly note them all down. E.g. The Turkish Van is one of the few cats who love water and what is it with cats and confined spaces?

What does your cat get up to?

If you have a funny cat, why not try to record it on video and then you can share it with other cat lovers.
